Healthcare pros face the process of solving ethical dilemmas on a regular basis. This paper is going to discuss a hypothetical ethical dilemma in a healthcare setting as if it were the author's. Clumsy Master is a great 82 year old female that is hospitalized as a result of pneumonia. This wounderful woman has mild dementia and is a higher fall risk. She has a brief history of damaged hips and has a tendency to speculate and has been found thinking the halls twice by staff members on two independent occasions. Mrs. Walker comes with an intravenous (IV) line. Employees has expressed concern that she may well fall and dislodge the IV or wander away somewhere and unintentionally injure herself. Therefore, the advice has been made to restrain Mrs. Walker although she has recently been adamant that she will not want to be restrained. The Honest Dilemma

An ethical situation is " a situation that will require an individual to select between two equally undesirable alternatives” (Aiken, 2004, p. 100). In such a case, the moral dilemma is whether to inhibit Mrs. Walker against her will and therefore protect very little and the organization or to esteem her would like to not end up being restrained and determine a suitable alternative course of action.

Competing Loyalties

The healthcare provider features competing loyalties between the organization and the patient. One of the healthcare provider's major loyalties can be described as duty to complete good for the individual (beneficence) and in this case performing no harm (non-maleficence) (Aiken, 2004).
