Marriage; a road to imprisonment
Kate Chopin's " Account of an Hour, вЂќ and Charlotte Gilman's " The Yellow Picture, вЂќ present similar plots about two wives that have grown to feel imprisoned in their individual marriages. " The Yellowish Wallpaper, вЂќ focuses on a female who feels so entrapped in her own matrimony that the girl begins to experience this type of solitude and imprisonment all around her. She starts to feel like the room, in which she is having to stay in is a prison by itself. " History of an Hour, вЂќ has a similar plan of a girl in an disappointed marriage. This kind of woman however , momentarily escapes her disappointment when the girl comes to identify that her husband was thought to have been killed in an accident. The woman's sudden independence stemming from life with out a husband to keep her back is short lived though, seeing that she finds out at the extremely end it is all a mistake. In the stories " The Yellow Wallpapers, вЂќ and " Story Of An Hour, вЂќ Gilman and Chopin use the same theme in discussing having less freedom that was given to women during this period period while using different types of symbolism and different characterization strategies such as types of disputes, to bring in and describe the problems the women were required to face in each individual tale.

This chair seems to signify much of the same relationship she has with her husband. Using the wallpaper alone is the biggest literary symbol of all from this story. The yellow picture does not apparently play a big part in the story in the beginning, the narrator simply is not concerned with for it, but as the story moves along it begins to represent even more...
